Introductory Statistics follows scope and sequence requirements of a one-semester introduction to statistics course and is geared toward students majoring in fields other than math or engineering. The text assumes some knowledge of intermediate algebra and focuses on statistics application over theory. Introductory Statistics includes innovative practical applications that make the text relevant and accessible, as well as collaborative exercises, technology integration problems, and statistics labs.

This text mostly consists of a direct copy of the textbook Introductory Statistics found at OpenStax (https://openstax.org/details/books/introductory-statistics), I list most of the major changes here:

  • Homework practice problems have been removed with the assumption that this text will be supplemented with an online homework system such as MyOpenMath (https://myopenmath.com)
  • Section 1.3 Frequency, Frequency Tables and Levels of Measurement have been split into two, and more information on creating frequency distributions has been added.
  • Graphing Calculator examples have been replaced with similar examples/explanations using Google Sheets.
  • Collaborative Exercises have been removed since this is largely intended for an online course.
  • The formulas for percentiles has been changed.
  • Added a section in Chapter 3 on Counting principles
